Write the book the world needs to read.

I’m obsessed with understanding great books—what’s the idea? How is it structured? What makes readers love it? What did the author do to make it successful? How do deserving ideas and authors break through the noise and change the world?

I’ve been asking these questions about nonfiction books throughout my 12+-year career in traditional publishing, and I’ve learned a thing or two along the way. In this newsletter, I bring you the best advice I’ve learned on how to:

  • Develop a GREAT idea—something unique and valuable to contribute to the world

  • Structure your book so that it feels intuitive and engaging for readers

  • Find your publishing path, whether that’s self-publishing, hybrid, or traditional

My newsletters offer a smattering of resources: articles from me, publishing news, resources from other authors and publishing gurus, templates and tools for writing, and sundry updates on life and reading.

Thanks for being here. I hope you enjoy!

More about me

I fell in love with editing and publishing at my first internship in London. I spent the next decade acquiring nonfiction books and editing manuscripts at an independent educational publisher in California. In 2021, I started Ariel Curry Editorial to work more closely with authors and expand my work coaching, editing, and ghostwriting nonfiction books and proposals. As of June 2024, I have joined Sourcebooks as Sr. Editor for nonfiction and am no longer taking any 1-1 client work.

I’m also the co-host of the Hungry Authors podcast and co-author of Hungry Authors: The Indispensable Guide to Planning, Creating, and Publishing a Nonfiction Book (forthcoming from Rowman & Littlefield, 2024).

You can learn more about me and see my portfolio on my website.

The personal stuff

Originally from Southern California, I now live in Chattanooga, TN, with my husband, two dogs, one kitten, and a beehive. I’m also an infertility/IVF survivor and foster mama. My husband and I have always dreamed of having a large family, and we’re building it in a way we didn’t imagine, but that’s beautiful nonetheless. When I’m not editing or coaching, you can find me reading, walking my dogs, doing yoga, practicing piano, or tending my garden.

My favorite books

  • Favorite classic: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

  • Favorite prescriptive nonfiction: The War of Art by Stephen Pressfield

  • Favorite memoir: How to Stay Married by Harrison Scott Key

  • Favorite narrative nonfiction: The Woman They Could Not Silence by Kate Moore

  • Favorite historical fiction: The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman

  • Favorite philosophy: Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
